For contacting me by email, please see also fr:Utilisateur:verdy_p, or use my talk page at fr:Discussion Utilisateur:verdy_p (on my home wiki): I don't want to monitor changes in all wikis, notably with emails formatted in various languages depending on the source wiki, or from unadministered small wikis harvested by spammers, or dummy "welcome" messages sent by bots). You can write me on my talk page of any Wikimedia wiki, I'll be notified from any Wikimedia wiki (because I'm connected with a SUL-enabled account) even if you can't send emails from all wikis. You should still be able to send emails from my home wiki (preferably in English or French if you can, but you should try to use some automatic online translators for your posts).
Thanks are always welcome: many users forget to do that. But this helps proving that our work is appreciated, and that we just try to do cooperatively our best on this wiki, hopefully without breaking, cancelling or blindly reverting all the patient work made by us or by others, and that some of our possible errors or disagreements can be fixed or negotiated easily, without causing major troubles with a few intolerant Wikimedia users (who forget the community rules, and "overreact" for what is a minor issue or just a disagreement of personal opinions on specific topics). There should always exist a way to coexist even in case of disagreement. So don't forget the neutrality and politeness rules of Wikimedia (see for example Category:Wikipedia policies and guidelines).

Update request
Hello.
In Module:Countries/Europe/Template:Countries of Europe, can you remove Gagauzia, which is a region in Moldova? It is not a breakaway state nor does it have a special status.
Yours sincerely, Orattas (talk) 12:58, 29 January 2025 (UTC)
- Sorry, there's an edit war currently ongoing with various people. This should be discussed, I won't participate to the discussion about the "limited recognition" status, possibly historic (before 1994?), which has various pages and related contents discussing it already. I did not add it myself. Go to the community talk pages in case of problems to reach a consensus. verdy_p (talk) 15:16, 29 January 2025 (UTC)
- I understand. Thank you for the reply. However, since Gagauzia is not a breakaway state, nor is it a state, it is not a controversial topic or a topic at all, unlike for example Transnistria, South Ossetia, Abkhazia, Kosovo or Northern Cyprus, which are breakaway states and generate neverending controversy, disputes and edit wars. The problem as far as I understand is technical, for this one noncontroversial mistake anyway. Orattas (talk) 15:58, 29 January 2025 (UTC)
- The problem is that there's been multiple reverts by multiple users on attempts to remove it. Adding me to the list would not solve what is still a dispute that can be solved by a discussion and a regular decision with more people than those already involved in the dispute. Even if it's not today a "breakaway state", this is still a region with special autonomous status, because of the 1994 conflict where it was declaring itself as a breakaway state, I have not followed the political development there, in what is already a very troubled region with military actions or wars. verdy_p (talk) 21:52, 29 January 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for the explanation. Orattas (talk) 08:06, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks you also, I'm not opposed to remove it, after you open a talk about it and there's a consensus. I just don't want to participate to an edit war, so I won't remove it without this consensus. verdy_p (talk) 11:00, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
- Actually, a section in Module talk:Countries/Europe about Gagauzia was opened by User:Blackcat, to whom I did send a request about removing it. He removed it in Module:Countries/Europe, but was reverted by User:Reinhard Müller for technical reasons. Orattas (talk) 13:36, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
Comment @Verdy p: , the problem is that it was a big original mistake to put Gagauzia in the template. Now it's too late for putting the blame on someone because of that, but geography is not a thing that goes by consensus, an atlas is enough. -- Blackcat

Weather and climate has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |

New Template Creation Request
Hey, I see you created a Template:Provinces of Nepal, can you create a similar template for Myanmar? Thank you 獅眠洞 (talk) 12:08, 17 June 2025 (UTC)
- @獅眠洞: See Template:Regions of Myanmar, alias Template:States of Myanmar (the template list all 1st-level divisions, including "regions", "states", and the "union territory"). verdy_p (talk) 12:17, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
- I could potentially create templates for lower-level divisions, starting by "districts", and later maybe "townships" (but would probably need one template per 1st-level division, due to the 3 kinds of 1st-level status and administration between regions, states and territory). verdy_p (talk) 12:35, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
- As of my need Template:Regions of Myanmar is sufficient. And I am not know Much Burmese Administrative Divisions; But @EmeraldRange will be good For Further template discussion, because he is Burmese. 獅眠洞 (talk) 20:28, 18 July 2025 (UTC)
- have a great contribution on English Wikipedia 獅眠洞 (talk) 20:32, 18 July 2025 (UTC)
- I'm not quite sure how these templates work personally, but it might make sense to do "Administrative Divisions of Myanmar"? I think the current template is also fine assuming Template:States of Myanmar works with perhaps a Template:Territories of Myanmar for Naypyidaw. But for a one-off case, maybe Naypyidaw can be treated as a "region".
- While Districts are the 2nd level after, I think there are a lot of categories already based on Township since in-country, "District" is really a mostly meaningless categorisation. EmeraldRange (talk) 22:11, 18 July 2025 (UTC)
- There's only one template the same for regions, states and union territory, the names are aliased (i.e. they redirect to regions). I did not use the term "subdivision" because it is ambiguous with other non-1st-level subdivisions and the template only lists the 1st level.
- For the 2nd-level subdivisions, there's the need to distinguish them by the 1st level type (districts are not relevant everywhere, and there's intermediate level in only one state), so we could just create templates directly for the 3rd level (townships), i.e. one template listing all townships in each 1st-level region/state/territory (these lists are still maintainable, even if there are intermediate parent categories): these templates "Subdivisions of XXX Region/State/Territory" could still indicate these intermediate levels in relevant subgroups (just like there are subgroups from the 3 types of 1st-level subdivisions. verdy_p (talk) 23:15, 18 July 2025 (UTC)
Topic by country
Hello, just want to let you know I reverted your edit before because someone asked for help here: Template talk:Topic in country#the template is damaged. At that time, I noticed a lot of categories that used the template (not directly, but via other templates) are broken. Sorry for any misunderstanding caused. Thanks. Tvpuppy (talk) 16:37, 18 July 2025 (UTC)
- Even with the revert, there are still bugs with some "types" of categories. I'm looking for them, that's what I wanted to solve, by clarifying the code for easier editing. I did not notice the cases occuring after that edit which was keeping the structure. I've noted some of these cases, I'm investigating these problematic categories using the sandbox version in them. This is probably related to some empty/missing parameters.
- It looks that some subtemplates are the real issue. verdy_p (talk) 16:40, 18 July 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you, I tried to figure out the reason for the category bugs before but as you may already know the template/subtemplates are very complicated, and I still couldn’t figure it out. So it will be wonderful if you manage to do it. Thanks. Tvpuppy (talk) 17:15, 18 July 2025 (UTC)
- Using the "debug" parameters may help, there are some cases in subtemplates with missing parameters without a "safe" (tested) default value. The way these templates were written did not help much, that's why I uniformized the syntax and indentation (such bugs may have been caused because of that with forgotten parameters, hidden within the too compact syntax). verdy_p (talk) 17:29, 18 July 2025 (UTC)
- Please be patient, I'm working offline to edit and check the code and then submit and test it in a sandbox version. Just formatting this complex code for easier editing takes time. Too many dummy HTML comments everywhere, and various inconsistencies which does not help getting a clear view before making effective fixes that are spread at random locations hard to focus for now. verdy_p (talk) 20:17, 18 July 2025 (UTC)
- I have found various invalid queries to Wikidata not returning the expected value (there was no rank specified in the query, or the rank was wrong, I converted these queries using "rank=best"). There are other quirks to look for. But the first anomalies I found are now solved (there may be others). Sandboxes have been used to test various cases. verdy_p (talk) 12:12, 19 July 2025 (UTC)
Help with translator
Hi there! May you remember me from translatewiki.net. I was working with Crimean Tatar (Romania). The project is now larger. We have a translator, it's running by GitHub. The problem is, the translator doesn't use the words and translations from the sources, it generates new translations mostly. Can you help us to solve the problem? Zolgoyo (talk) 08:31, 29 July 2025 (UTC)
- I cannot help at all. I no longer participate there, since an admin abused his power there (after being influenced by liers), he pretended I abused the system, but I have just used the interface normally and honestly and because of a defect of the UI could not see that there was someone that was undoing things made by others). There were evidences demonstrted by many others that I was not guilty at all, and that the UI interface technical defect was real and I could not be alerted (the glithc was not even in TWN itself but in Wikipedia, without any communciation between the two systems, and even in Wikipedia I was not alerted at all that someone contested my edit; I was not involved in any discussion, this occured behind my back silently, and abruptly). The system performed invisible reverts (in my name!) without me noticing anything. I had maintained the TWN wiki for years, and helped many people, solved many technical problems, alerted their admins that did not react for years. I made TWN completely translatable and supporting hundreds of language; I manage to sort the content and make it fully navigatable. But due to a single technical glitch, I was ejected definitely. TWN is not correctly adminstered, but there's no appeal, they do whatever they want (or don't want to do). verdy_p (talk) 08:39, 29 July 2025 (UTC)
